CMA 4 decided to launch the Sharm el-Sheikh dialogue between Parties, relevant organizations, and stakeholders to exchange views on and enhance understanding of the scope of Article 2, paragraph 1(c), of the Paris Agreement and its complementarity with Article 9. CMA 4 requested that the secretariat, under the guidance of the COP27 Presidency, organize two workshops in 2023 per this guidance and prepare a report on the deliberations at these workshops.
The main focus of the second workshop will be on the role of the international financial system and of different actors within and outside the Paris Agreement, and on transparency and credibility with a focus on the avoidance of greenwashing and maladaptation. The workshop will build on concrete examples and actions taken and facilitate the sharing of experiences and best practices among the various stakeholders.
The workshop will take place on 6 and 7 October in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt and is open to invited Party and non-Party stakeholders for on-site participation. To ensure inclusive and broader participation, the dialogue will be held in a hybrid format, enabling virtual participation. As mandated, the dialogue will have webcast.
This panel is hosted by UNFCCC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Egypt and UNDP Egypt. InfluenceMap's Director of FinanceMap, Daan Van Acker, will join the panel virtually to discuss public and private actors' approaches to climate risk disclosure policies and requirements.
