Corporates have a unique opportunity and capacity to tackle climate change, both in their operational actions to reduce their emissions and how they use their political influence in engaging policymakers. However, only 27 corporates around the world have been identified as Climate Policy Engagement Leaders by InfluenceMap. With the fossil fuel lobby having an outsized influence on policy, we need to strengthen corporate climate advocacy and move more corporations from the sidelines into leading advocacy positions.
This COP28 event will feature a keynote presentation from Senator Whitehouse on the importance of climate policy engagement, followed by exploration with leading businesses, financial institutions, and NGOs like We Mean Business Coalition on what advocacy opportunities lie ahead on the road to COP30. How can policy incentives ensure businesses and financial institutions go faster to cut emissions? What regulatory trends and policy wins lie ahead, to ensure we win the Race to Zero? What is the role of trade associations in advocating for policies consistent with a 1.5C future?
