Job Title Front End Developer, Climate Change, UK-based

This will be a key role within the organization, and you will greatly add value to InfluenceMap as our work is increasingly driven by sophisticated data and technology strategies. You will work on data-intensive projects and platforms within our operations. You will also help evolve the underlying data and software systems that drive our work.

Our Core System is written in Python and MySQL. You will be thoroughly familiar with these and be able to contribute to its development and maintenance. You will assist the development of public and team-facing user interfaces of our web-based platforms, based on jQuery and Bootstrap.

Working closely with key external datasets we deploy for our work, you will work across InfluenceMap projects including our core activity, tracking corporate climate lobbying globally, as well as new research streams on use of digital media and advertising. This position would suit an individual wishing to develop programming skills with a dynamic team in a mission driven environment.

  • The location is flexible with remote/office hybrid working a norm at InfluenceMap
  • We have our main office in London (Borough) which our team members use frequently
  • Salary depending on experience/qualifications, circa £30k
  • This is a full-time position
  • Start date as soon as possible

Role Details

Role and Responsibilities

  • Providing data analysis, coding, and technical support to InfluenceMap's project teams
  • Helping to develop software tools to track climate disinformation on digital media
  • Helping to evolve our information and data platforms, including implementation of front-end designs to our main platform and microsites
  • In time, developing and leading projects within InfluenceMap's work areas

You will report to our Program Manager responsible for Digital Intelligence, a unit of our think tank which devises methods to counter climate disinformation on digital media.

Required Attributes

  • A desire to apply data and coding to better the world!
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and handle time-sensitive work
  • Experience with Python, MySQL / Postgres, PANDAS, Bootstrap, jQuery
  • Highly desirable: experience of Linux, interest in AI and Natural Language Processing, and data visualization.
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Knowledge/interest of our work area (climate change/policy/finance) would be useful
  • Fluency in English
