In 2015 the Japan Foreign Trade Council (JFTC) appeared to directly advocate for measures that will maintain a high GHG energy mix, stating in a policy proposal to Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) its support to overseas financing of coal-fired power projects. From the evidence found by InfluenceMap, it is unclear whether JFTC supports the transition of the energy mix. In 2019, JFTC chairman suggests further clarification is needed from the government in its energy mix policy including on nuclear and renewables. In an interview with IEEI, JFTC appears to support increased use of natural gas, but it is unclear whether as a transitional fuel. JFTC also appear to support use of fossil fuels in developing countries where renewables are limited due to technology or cost.
