Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) has communicated a mix of positions on the energy mix. In 2016, the group appear to have stated support for the continued use of coal in the energy mix, a position also communicated in a 2015 policy statement addressed to the government. Since this time, however, JEITA has also communicated support for renewable energy to play a role in Japan’s Energy Mix Strategy. In 2019, in its response to the public consultation on the Long-Term Strategy under the Paris Agreement as a Growth Strategy, JEITA appears to have communicated support for government policy to provide financial incentives for businesses to decarbonise their operations. The organisation also appears to have communicated support for a voluntary 2030 GHG reduction target as part of the low carbon action plan. However, in a response to a government consultation on Long-Term Strategy under the Paris Agreement as a Growth Strategy, JEITA also argued that emission reduction to 2050 should be treated as an ambitious vision and not a target.
