The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) is actively and positively lobbying US climate change legislation. SEIA recognizes the urgent need to act on climate change and stated support for the US signing of the Paris Agreement in 2016. SEIA has actively supported the US Clean Power Plan, both through 2014 consultation responses and legal interventions in support of the plan in 2015 and 2016. SEIA is a vocal supporter of US renewable energy legislation, advocating throughout 2014-17 in favour of the federal solar Investment Tax Credit, including in 2015 testimony to Congress. The Solar Energy Industries Association also strongly supports ambitious state-level renewable portfolio standards, including in Nevada, New York and California. Additionally, SEIA petitioned policy-makers in 2017 to oppose anti-distributive solar legislation in Kentucky, and campaigned in 2016 to defeat the anti-solar Amendment 1 in Florida. SEIA strongly advocates for the decarbonization the power sector through the increased proliferation of solar power. In 2017 SEIA directly advocated to policymakers in support of the expansion of renewable energy in the US power mix, to oppose cuts in funding for US renewable and energy efficiency programs and to reject measures to support increased subsidies for coal and nuclear.
